RARRR!! A game of World Conquering Giant Monsters

Description

The game my dad designed is up on Kickstarter with 11 days to go: www.kickstarter.com/projects/1…

To celebrate, I made a bit of fan-art.  Unfortunately, they hired another artist for the job, but here is what the art might have looked like had I done the work.  I guess I'm not very good with silly-cartoony.  I'm too obsessed with pretty eyes and extra details, also I have trouble depicting anything as ugly or silly, as I tend to see everything in the world as having beauty-- even spiders and slime mold.  I have no sense for American-cartoon exaggeration.

My dad showed me the entire Godzilla franchise when I was a child.  As the later films came out after I went off to college, we always met up to watch them together.  Since we love giant monster films so much, my dad has worked for years on making giant monster themed board and cardgames.  Now that he's retired, my dad's been able to work more on his game designs, and RARRR!! has been picked up for publication.

RARRR!! is being published by Ape Games, and is quite fun and fast.  Here is a description of the game and how it's played: www.sfsignal.com/archives/2013…

Also, here is a review: fathergeek.com/rarrr_prepub/

RARRR!! is a card based game that I really find fun, and I'm not much of a game player (). Players build a monster using 3 cards that give the monster its powers; these cards each have a syllable (and the Katakana character for the sound), so the three cards also give the monster its name.  Cards are not dealt at random, they are assigned in a draft -- The deck of cards is dealt out, then the player picks the card from their 'hand' and passes the set to the next player; this continues until all of the cards have been taken.  So there is a mix of strategy and chance when building a monster.

Power cards are dealt by draft as well, so players can choose power 'attacks' that work best with the base powers of their monster.  Players can also try to sabotage others by taking cards they think one of their opponents will find useful.

Then, the monsters fight over large cities from around the world.  This is done using a bidding mechanic, in which power cards are spent, representing the fury of the monsters' struggle to conquer the city and decimate its competition.   Players can go 'all-in' and spend lots of power cards to dominate a bigger and higher-scoring city, or they may play only a few cards, and try to capture several smaller cities.  Cities stomped by a monster will add points to the monster's score, and these points are determined by the size of the city.  The monster with the highest score after all the cities are destroyed takes the title of 'King of the Monsters'.

Awesome artwork dude! Love it. :D

Apologies if I come off as rude but I honestly don't like card games. They're rather tedious in my opinion. The art used for cards is great but, on a card? I just cringe at the idea. The paper cuts are real though, hehe.

Again I mean no offence to you or your dad. I felt I should establish that. :)
